Who doesn’t love pizza? Pizza has been America’s favorite food for years and people eat it at restaurants and homes. Popularity of pizza is greater than those of hot dogs and hamburgers. In the United States, people eat 3 Billion slices of pizza every year. This means that every person eats about 46 slices in a year. That’s about 23 pounds of pizza. Also, October is celebrated as National Pizza Month. Can you imagine how much people must love pizza to have a whole month dedicated to it? People eat pizza at so many occasions and events including Super Bowl, kids’ birthday parties, or class lunch at school.
It’s interesting that this America’s favorite dish is an Italian dish. It’s believed that the early Greeks made the first pizza and pizza wasn’t well known in America until the Second World War. It arrived in the US in the latter half of the nineteenth century when Millions of Southern Italians moved to the States. Since then, pizza became very popular and is now considered an icon food of the States.
A variety of toppings, crusts and sauces are available to make pizza not only delicious but also fun to eat and nutritious. Different variety of toppings make it different from other countries’ pizzas (like Indian and Russian pizzas). Pepperoni is by far an all-time favorite pizza topping in America.
Over the past few decades, tastes of pizzas have changed in America’s love for pizza hasn’t changed.
