The smart TV trend has been brewing for years already at CES, and 2012 saw a number of companies including LG, Samsung, Panasonic, Sony, and others beef up their efforts in the realm of internet-connected televisions. LG took a few different approaches to enhancing its smart TV lineup, including launching a line of Google TVs as well as making improvements to its line of devices running LG's own Smart TV platform.
One of the notable improvements to its connected TV platform included a handful of new features for the Magic Remote, the handheld control unit shipping with all of LG's 2012 line of Smart TVs. In the new iteration of the remote we have voice control for performing various functions including surfing the web, a new rollerball for easier scrolling through menus and interfaces, a dedicated 3D button that will instantly upconvert 2D content to three-dimensional viewing with one touch, and "magic gesture" support: via an embedded camera in the TV itself, LG's Smart TV's will support physical gestures with the remote.
